Get Out Of Jail With NC GPS Monitoring

North Carolina’s Iryna’s Law (HB 307), effective late 2025, mandates stricter bail for violent offenses, requiring house arrest with GPS monitoring (or a secured bond) for first-time violent offenders, and mandatory house arrest with NC GPS monitoring for repeat violent offenders, eliminating unsecured bonds for these groups to increase public safety. NC GPS monitoring is a key tool to enforce these new, stricter pretrial release conditions for those charged with violent crimes or who have extensive criminal histories.

How NC GPS Monitoring is Used Under Iryna’s Law:

First-Time Violent Offenders: For a first violent offense, NC judges must impose either a secured bond or house arrest with electronic (GPS) monitoring. CAM can help.

Repeat Violent Offenders: For a second or subsequent violent offense in North Carolina, house arrest with electronic monitoring is generally the only release option, provided the service is available in the county.

Repeat Offenders (Non-Violent): Defendants with three or more prior convictions (Class 1 misdemeanor or higher) in the last 10 years must also receive a secured bond or house arrest with NC GPS monitoring.

Eliminates “Cashless Bail”: The law removes the “written promise to appear” (unsecured bond) option for these serious cases, ensuring more accountability.

Purpose of the Law: To increase public safety by keeping violent and repeat offenders detained or closely monitored before trial. To help keep the public safe with NC GPS monitoring by CAM can help.

To ensure judicial officials consider a defendant’s full criminal history and housing situation.

Implementation: Iryna’s law, signed in October 2025, became effective in stages, with key pretrial release provisions starting December 1, 2025. Mandating NC GPS monitoring in most cases as an option.
